Onto the Florida Panhandle
House Sitting in Pensacola...
Our first morning found the skies full of the roar of jet aircraft with trails of white smoke decorating the blue.
Only one thing to do, jump in the car and get a closer look...
1. Blue Angels displays
The US Navy's air display team, the Blue Angels, are based here and practice regularly in season. It's easy to get on the base and you can watch the whole show for free. There are often around 10,000 others taking advantage of the show but as the action is all overhead, and I do mean right over your head, the crowd is of little hindrance.
It's exciting stuff but loud so be aware. Especially with little kids, you should have ear defenders. For more details on the Blue Angels, click here...
2. Naval Air Museum
With free entry, plenty of simulator rides and a cool eating spot, you can easily pass a few hours here. There are plenty of retired naval guys around too with great stories and insights into the displays.
I'd give the last word here to Araya, but she is just 2 years old. On her behalf though, I can say that I have never seen my daughter tremble with such excitement as when we walked through the entrance. She was overwhelmed by the number of aircraft and cockpits she could play in. So, we ended up coming here 5 times in 2 weeks..!

3. Pensacola Beach
4. Fort Barrancas
Again, entry is free and Barrancas is found inside the Naval base so it's easy to link up a trip along with the Air Museum or flying display. In fact, this is a great, crowd free place to get another angle of the airshow. Official website can be found by clicking here...
5. Palafox Market
Suddenly our senses were assaulted by the most incredible siren call. Imagine mouth watering, slowly roasted meat being flavored in a crafty blend of wood smokes.
We craned our necks, seeking the source of this saliva inducing aroma - the Hot Spot BBQ Restaurant. It was one of the simpler decisions in life, we had to eat here! If anything it tastes even better than the smell and a single portion fed all 3 of us. Highly recommended...
